Our translational research cancer centre, Sydney Vital, offers top-up scholarship awards for researchers who propose innovative and outstanding research projects. Their scholarship candidates look to improve examinations for early diagnoses, treatments and quality of life. The Bill Walsh Lab and Sydney Vital are delighted to announce that two of our PhD students, Mr Josef Gilson and Mr Lionel Leck, are among the awardees of the 12th round of our top-up scholarship awards and congratulates both of them.
Mr Josef Gilson was awarded $10,000 for his project titled “Novel Biomarker Panel for Predicting Chemo-resistance in Pancreatic Cancer.” Mr Gilson is conducting his research under the supervision of Dr Sumit Sahni at the University of Sydney and aims to complete his project in 2022.
Mr Lionel Leck
Mr Lionel Leck was awarded $10,000 for his project “Targeting the Mitochondrial Dynamics to Prevent Drug-Induced Cancer Stem Cells and Drug-Resistance in Glioblastoma.” Mr Leck is supervised by Dr Patric Jan Jansson at the University of Sydney and aims to complete his project in 2022.
