Vaccine success gives new hope to cancer sufferers, September 2, 2013

Dr Chris Weir has successfully completed a vaccine safety trial for dogs with cancer after much pre-clinical testing. This vaccine is made from the patient’s own tumour (autologous) and is relatively cheap to produce requiring only a small piece of tumour. The tumour is processed in such a manner that it is now recognised by the patient’s immune system which then begins to fight the cancer. The trial in dogs showed that the vaccine was completely safe with no deleterious side effects observed and excitingly, appears to have increased the lifespan of many of the treated dogs.
